Our Brood Mares

(Click on the mare's name for pictures & full pedigree)

Ballinaboy Shackira - born in 2004, our first filly to arrive from Connemara - purchased as a foal from the Clifden sales in October 2004. A dark dun with a generous wide brow, kind eyes and a cheeky temperament. She has really excellent old Irish breeding which goes through Hazel Dun to Thunderbolt as well as Loobeen Larry on her sire's side, with Ormond Oliver and good Ashfield competition lines, going back to Granard Storm on her dam's side. She was backed in 2007 and turned away after being scanned in foal.

Willow Tree Dancing Jubilee - born in 2002, our only English bred dun mare bought in the spring of 2005. She is of good Millfields breeding going back to Wisbridge Golden Rebel on her sire's side and Rory Ruadh on her dam's side. She has a finer head and a much lighter bone structure than the mares from Connemara, which probably comes from the influence of Clonkeehan Auratum in her breeding, as he was known to produce extra quality and finer heads.

Carraig Cailin - born in 1999, she is a lovely golden dun mare who had already bred two foals, and purchased from the October 2005 sales in Connemara. Her dam, Castle Cailin Ard, had a cracking 2006 showing year, coming 3rd at Clifden, Supreme Champion at Claddaghduff & taking All Ireland Supreme Champion at Roundstone, and her grand-dam is Castle Dame - also the dam of Wembley winner Castle Comet. Her sire, Commanding Hero, a good Grade A showjumper with progeny placed in the loose jumping competition in Clifden, goes back to MacDara on his sire's side and Carna Bobby on his dam's side.

October Gold - born in 2002 - our final dun mare purchased in 2006 from Connemara. She carries wonderful old Irish bloodlines including Abbeyleix Owen, Erislannan Hollyhock and Westside Myrah. Her dam, Glenmore Kelly's Owen won premium are status in 2002 and won the All-Ireland broodmare championship in 2005. Her sire, Castleside JJ - who is now standing in Sweden - and grandsire both showjumped at Grade A level in Ireland, and progeny by Castleside JJ is always sought after. We expect she will pass on the best competition genes to her foals.
