TawnyDun Stud

Dun Connemara mares are hard to find - especially well bred ones who do not carry the grey gene

It took over 18 months to get my four dun connemara brood mares of the quality, breeding & colour I was looking for, and they are now the foundation of the TawnyDun Stud

Their pedigrees carry some of the best old Irish bloodlines available

As Kiera’s 2011 foal, TawnyDun Tully, was due towards the end of July, I decided not to put her in foal again, but to break her in and see what she can do - she did jump a 5 bar gate whilst carrying her first foal Ailis, so she has great potential!   She is looking very well in maturity and could do well in the showring too.
Caillie has produced some really beautiful foals with Grianagh Petrus - true-to-type conformation combined with lovely temperaments and stunning movement - so she has been covered by Peter once again. Genetically speaking, she is should produce a dun foal this year - so watch this space if you are looking for a dun foal for the show ring!
Nell has been put to TB Tito Gofirst, not successful himself but with impressive race breeding - by Gone West  (Mr Prospector) out of a Secretariat mare - out of Torgau ( Zieten, grandsire Northern Dancer) out of a Sir Ivor mare.  With his speed and her great jumping bloodlines the foal should ooze performance and quality.   Ideal for youngstock classes initially & on to eventing, her foal might well look thoroughbred but carry native intelligence - and possibly be dun too!,
Nancy has been covered by Hayselden Kadmus, as I really like TawnyDun Ferdia (Nell’s 2011 foal by the same stallion) who has lots of bone and a lovely temperament.  Nancy carries the Millfields breeding going back to Wisbridge Erinmore, which combined with Kadmus’s excellent Irish breeding, she should produce a quality foal with the best conformation.   Nancy’s foals have always had wonderful action too, and this foal will be dun or bay.
Letty has gone to Dale Vardor for his excellent temperament and good competition bloodlines through the Sparrow dynasty - he hunts, jumps, cross country & dressage with many successes.   Letty herself has elevated paces with a lovely long stride, so together they should produce an elegant foal with wonderful paces who should also perform exceptionally well in the jumping arena. This  foal will be quality with lots of bone for the showring, but ideal for eventing or dressage in the future, and will hopefully be dun!
