Dun Connemara mares are hard to find - especially well bred ones who do not carry
the grey gene
It took over 18 months to get my four dun connemara brood mares of the quality, breeding
& colour I was looking for, and they are now the foundation of the TawnyDun Stud
Their pedigrees carry some of the best old Irish bloodlines available

As Kiera’s 2011 foal, TawnyDun Tully, was a late foal, I decided not to put her in foal again, but to break her in - she is now broken and being ridden out, going very nicely too. During the busy foaling season she was been turned away, but is back under saddle now and her training is continuing.
Caillie has produced some really beautiful foals with Grianagh Petrus - true-to-type conformation combined with lovely temperament and stunning movement. Her last foal is every bit the quality of his siblings, lovely and chunky with lots of bone. She was destined to have a year off, but I have covered her with Rickamore Surf before he was cut, to try to keep his absolutely wonderful bloodlines.
Nell has been put to TB Tito Gofirst again. He was not successful himself but has impressive race breeding - by Gone West (Mr Prospector) out of a Secretariat mare, and out of Torgau (Zieten, grandsire Northern Dancer) out of a Sir Ivor mare. With his speed and her great jumping bloodlines her foal does ooze performance and quality! He is a lovely palomino colt - a great surprise - but wonderfully athletic and definitely one to go into eventing.
Nancy has been covered by Hayselden Kadmus again as I really like TawnyDun Tristan, who is an exquisite colt with lots of quality. Nancy carries the Millfields breeding going back to Wisbridge Erinmore, which combined with Kadmus’s excellent Irish breeding, she should hopefully produce another classy foal with excellent conformation and wonderful action. As Tristan is dun, I would think that next year’s foal will be bay.
Letty’s foal was so big at birth that she was not able to get him out, poor girl. Luckily I had rung the vet on a birthing query quite early in labour, so they were on their way. Letty has pretty much given up, and I was unable to help her, so when the vets arrived they pulled him out - his shoulders were so large - but afterwards foal and dam both quickly recoveredl. He is a big, quality bay colt who is very athletic - but his size is quite a surprise as his sire is only 14.1hh. I only breed from her every other year as she is an older mare.
